Hunter May

I'm Hunter May — currently based in Denver, Colorado, originally from Plainfield, IL. Outside of work you'll usually find me on a snowboard, a frisbee field, or a golf course.

I graduated from Drake University in 2021 with a double major in Computer Science and Data Analytics. I was active in my fraternity and captained the Ultimate Frisbee team for several years.

I've been at The Mutual Group (formerly GuideOne Insurance) since my senior year at Drake, starting as a Data Management intern. My first full-time role was as a Data Warehouse Specialist, where I helped build and maintain the enterprise ETL pipelines feeding our Data Store, Data Mart, and KPI layers. I administered the Tableau Server, designed the end-to-end data flow for the Claims department's TPA integration, and automated reporting workflows that reclaimed significant analyst time.

In 2024 I moved to the Actuarial & Analytics team as a Data Engineer, tasked with building the data and software infrastructure that governs the monthly analysis the actuaries rely on. The role has grown from there — I now partner with Finance, Underwriting, Risk Control, and Claims to automate their data processes, showing each team what's possible when efficiency and automation are treated as first-class priorities.
